MFNPS Safety Days

Progressive Agriculture School Safety Days (new)

This program is offered once a year by MFNP Crime Prevention in conjunction with the Canadian Agriculture Safety Association (CASA).  It is a Progressive Agriculture program whose mission is simple – to make farm and rural life safer and healthier for all children through education and training.  This fun and educational program has helped children across Canada learn about the dangers and potentially deadly outcomes of unsafe behavior both on the farm and in rural areas.

During the day, small groups of children from grades 4 – 8 rotate between 15 minute learning sessions.  This allows each child the opportunity to participate in interactive and engaging activities.  We invite a variety of organizations to set up a station to actively promote their safety awareness within this 15 minute activity for each group of children.  Topics for demonstration and discussion have included Basic First Aid kits, Chemical Safety, Electrical Safety, Helmet Safety, Food Safety and Nutrition, Sun Safety, Firearms Safety, Animal Care and Smoking Prevention.  These Safety stations are usually set up in the school gym and school yard for stations such as the DOTC Firehouse and the Lifesaving Society Watersmart program.

A lunch is served and students receive a certificate of participation, t-shirt, take-home bag and increased knowledge and understanding of safety awareness in their community.

This day would not be possible without the generous support of the organizations and individuals that give their time, energy and expertise to help us improve the safety and health of children in our First Nation Communities.

Over the lunch hour MFNP usually provides a demonstration to all the students on either K9 Search and Rescue activities or a mock accident demonstration resulting from the unsafe operation of ATV’s.
