Cpl. Leblanc has gone through extensive training through the Office of the Fire Commissioner (OFC) in Brandon, Manitoba. With their successful validations in the fall of 2025, Cpl. Leblanc and PSD Nyx are now deployed to the Opaskwayak Detachment.
PSD Nyx is a result of a unique partnership with the OFC. The OFC operates the Heavy Urban Search and Rescue (HUSAR) team for the province of Manitoba. PSD Nyx is specially trained to locate people in structural collapse situations where a large amount of rubble is searched for survivors. Examples of this would be tornado aftermath, building collapse from snow loads, parkade collapse and any other situation where locating buried survivors is necessary.
In addition to Urban Search and Rescue, the K-9 team is trained in ground search and rescue (GSAR), tracking, searching for evidence, firearms as well as narcotics.
