Swift Police Response Results in Successful Water Rescue
Roseau River Anishinabe First Nation
In the early morning hours of May 31, 2026, members of the Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) – Roseau River Detachment responded to a report involving a female youth in distress who had left her residence in Roseau River First Nation and was believed to be at risk of entering the Red River.
Upon arrival at the shoreline, officers observed the female floating northbound in the Red River at a significant distance from shore.
Officers entered the water to reach the individual, while another officer remained on the shoreline, maintaining communication with dispatch, monitoring the situation, and coordinating updates.
Through the coordinated efforts of all attending members, the female was safely retrieved from the river. Emergency Medical Services attended and transported her to hospital for further care.
MFNPS acknowledges the professionalism, teamwork, and rapid response of the attending officers, whose actions directly contributed to the preservation of life.
