Call for Service Leads to Firearm Charges in Brokenhead Ojibway Nation

Brokenhead Ojibway Nation

The Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) responded to a call for service in Brokenhead Ojibway Nation that resulted in the seizure of an illegally possessed firearm and ammunition, as well as the arrest of one man.


On October 3, 2026, at approximately 12 p.m., MFNPS members responded to a report of intimate partner violence. During the investigation, members ensured the safety and well-being of the victim and arrested the accused for assault-related offences.


As the investigation progressed, police obtained information indicating that the accused was in possession of a firearm within the residence.

Members executed a search warrant without incident, during which police seized a 20-gauge shotgun and ammunition.


A man from Brokenhead Ojibway Nation was arrested and charged with firearms-related offences in addition to the offences arising from the intimate partner violence investigation.


The accused was remanded into custody.


Since this is an intimate partner violence investigation, the name of the accused is not being released to protect the victim’s privacy.


The MFNPS remains committed to addressing intimate partner violence and removing illegally possessed firearms from our communities to enhance public safety and reduce the risk of violent crime.
