Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) Traffic Enforcement Initiative
Roseau River Anishinabe First Nation
On September 25, 2026, members of the Manitoba First Nations Police Service conducted an MPI Traffic Enforcement Night consisting of both check-stop operations and roving traffic enforcement throughout Roseau River Anishinabe First Nation.
During the initiative, officers stopped approximately 30 vehicles and conducted Mandatory Alcohol Screenings (MAS) on all drivers.
As a result, members took the following actions:
- Issued 2 Immediate Roadside Prohibitions (IRPs);
- Issued 2 Tiered Administrative Suspensions for drug impairment;
- Issued 1 Provincial Offence Notice (PON) for Driving While Suspended;
- Issued 1 Provincial Offence Notice (PON) for Open Liquor in a Vehicle; and
- Laid 1 Criminal Code charge of Impaired Operation Over 80 mg%.
During the operation, members identified Nadine Shingoose, 41, as being in breach of a Release Order.
Further investigation resulted in charges of:
- Breach of Release Order
- Identity Fraud
- Escape Lawful Custody
Nadine Shingoose was arrested and subsequently remanded into custody.
Members also executed an outstanding endorsed warrant for the arrest of Jason Seenie, 40, who was located in a vehicle containing open liquor. Seenie was arrested without incident on the warrant.
In a separate incident, Patrick Shingoose, 71, was found to be in breach of the conditions of his federal parole. As a result, police arrested Shingoose, and he was remanded into custody at Stony Mountain Institution.
The traffic enforcement initiative resulted in the removal of impaired drivers from the roadway, enforcement action against suspended and prohibited drivers, and the apprehension of wanted and non-compliant offenders.
These efforts contribute to improving road safety and enhancing public safety within the community.
