Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation

On September 6, at around 1:20 a.m., the Manitoba First Nations Police Service received a report of a collision involving an ATV and a pickup truck at the intersection of Ridge Road North and Main Road in Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation.

MFNPS members responded to the scene, where they saw an ATV fully engulfed in flames and a man lying in the ditch. Officers then transported the injured man to meet with an EMS unit which was on route to the scene.

The man was transported by EMS to the hospital in Portage la Prairie, where he later died.

An investigation determined that the 29-year-old ATV driver was travelling south on Ridge Road North and proceeded through the intersection without stopping. The ATV collided with the rear end of an eastbound pickup truck, sending the driver out of the ATV and into the ditch.

The 42-year-old driver of the pickup truck was not injured.

This fatality is still under investigation.

MFNPS would like to thank the Sandy Bay Fire Department and First Nation Safety Officers for assisting our officers.

MFNPS extends condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.
