Roseau River Man Resists Arrest — Energy Weapon Deployed

On September 12, 2026, at approximately 9:40 a.m., the Manitoba First Nations Police Service in Roseau River Anishinabe First Nation went to a residence in the community to locate an adult male with an active warrant for arrest stemming from a previous serious incident.
Upon attending the residence, the male was located and, once advised he was under arrest, he became agitated and combative. The suspect physically resisted the two officers’ attempts to restrain him and became further agitated.
A chemical agent (OC spray) was utilized to gain compliance. However, it was unsuccessful. A struggle continued and an energy weapon (Taser) was then deployed. The energy weapon was successful, but the suspect continued to be uncooperative.
For approximately 30 minutes, the suspect refused to comply, and additional officers were dispatched to assist. Eventually, the suspect was secured in a police vehicle.
As a result of the energy weapon deployment, the suspect suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital in Altona, where he was processed and released back into police custody a short time later. No police officers were injured during the incident.
Aries Ryan Roberts, 28, of Roseau River Anishinabe First Nation, has been remanded into custody with the following new charges:
· Resist Arrest
· Disobey order of Court x2
In addition to the new charges, the accused was processed on an outstanding warrant for arrest for the following charges:
· Sexual Assault
· Sexual Interference
