Video of animal abuse leads to youth being charged
Opaskwayak Cree Nation (OCN)
On May 30, 2026, the Manitoba First Nations Police in Opaskwayak Cree Nation were made aware of a graphic video circulating in a group chat with several youths. Police were advised that the video depicted a male youth using an axe to strike numerous dogs, leading to at least one being killed.
MFNPS members investigated the allegation and identified the youth in the video.
A 12-Year-old Male from Opaskwayak Cree Nation was arrested and charged with:
- Causing animals unnecessary suffering
He was released on conditions for a later court date as required by the Criminal Code of Canada.
