Wildfire Threats Continue in MFNPS Communities

May 8, 2025

Check Burn and Fire Restrictions in Your Community!

The potential for wildfires continue to pose a threat to public safety in First Nation Communities here in Manitoba.

The Manitoba First Nations Police Service would like to remind the public to check their local communities regarding fire and burning bans which may be in effect. The failure to follow these bans can result in catastrophic damage to homes and pose serious threats to the lives of community members.

We would like you to be aware of some of the provincial offences and fines which are in place as deterrent to disobeying fire bans:

S.8(a) Fail to take all reasonable steps to prevent fire from burning out of control - $1,296.00

S.8(b) Fail to take all reasonable steps to prevent fire from spreading from land owned or occupied by the person - $1,296.00

S.12(1)(a) Start a fire that burns out of control - $1,296.00

S.12(3)(a)(ii) Start a fire on any land when the weather conditions are conducive to the fire burning out of control - $496.00

Please do your part to prevent these serious fires. Let’s work together to keep our communities safe.

If you are aware of anyone who has committed an offence, please contact your local Manitoba First Nations Police Service detachment.

You can also report these to MFNPS Anonymous tips through our TIPS Line at: 1-833-978-0048 or email: TIPS@mfnp.ca. The MFNPS TIPS line is accessible 24/7, 365 days a year and is monitored regularly. Calls are NOT traceable, and we are NOT subscribed to caller ID and call display. Your information is confidential.
