3 adults charged after female youth assaulted

On December 10, 2025, at approximately 6:15 PM Manitoba First Nations Police Service received a report of a female youth laying on the side of a road in the Big Eddy Settlement, with injuries. Officers and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) attended immediately and located the female. She was transported to the hospital with minor injuries and later released. Investigation revealed that she had been assaulted by a group of adults at a nearby residence and was sexually assaulted by one of the male suspects.


Additional resources were deployed including the Remote Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS). The residence was contained by officers while a search warrant was obtained. 10 adult suspects were taken into custody over several hours.


An adult female, age 26, from Opaskwayak Cree Nation, was released on an Undertaking as per the Criminal Code of Canada with a pending charge of Assault.


An adult male, age 28, from Opaskwayak Cree Nation, was remanded into custody with a new charge of Assault. He had an outstanding warrant for arrest.


8 other subjects were determined to not have been involved and were released later in the evening without charges.  


An additional adult male, age 19, from Opaskwayak Cree Nation, was arrested later in the evening at a different residence. He has been remanded into custody with the following charges:

-         Sexual assault with a weapon

-         Forcible confinement

-         Assault with a weapon

-         Uttering threats

-         Fail to comply with a Release Order x4


Names of the accused’s have been withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
