Police Investigate Arson, One Male Charged

December 19, 2023


Waywayseecappo First Nation, Manitoba: On December 15, 2023, the Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) responded to a report of a structure fire at a home in Waywayseecappo First Nation.


Officers of the Manitoba First Nation Police Service attended to the scene and found the house fully engulfed in flames. Police confirmed no persons were inside either. Police followed up with the homeowner and witnesses, which resulted in the suspect's identification. The suspect was also involved in another mischief unrelated to the arson at another residence, with which he has been charged.


Police have arrested Kelvin Joseph HAPA, 33 years old; HAPA has been charged with the following offence:


• Arson – cause damage to property

• Mischief to property under $5000

• Assault with a weapon

• Operate a conveyance in a manner that is dangerous to the public
