Forcible Confinement Call Leads to Search Warrant
Long Plain First Nation, Manitoba
In the morning hours of May 18, 2026, Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) officers received a call from an erratic male reporting that he had been held hostage by a female. Police located the victim and ensured his safety. An investigation was conducted which led to a search warrant being secured.
On May 25, 2026, MFNPS with the assistance of the RCMP Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence.
As a result of the investigation and subsequent search warrant;
Melanie Nicole MEECHES, 31, of Long Plain First Nation was arrested. She has been charged with:
- Forcible Confinement
- Assault with a Weapon
- Administering Noxious Thing
- Extortion without a Firearm
- Possess Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Utter Threats
- Possession – Cocaine
- Fail to Comply with Release Order
She was held in custody for court appearance on May 26, 2026.
