MFNPS CREU Targets Drug Trafficking Following Recent Overdoses in Sandy Bay

Two women are facing Drug Trafficking charges as part of an ongoing drug investigation in Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation.

The Manitoba First Nations Police Service Crime Reduction and Enforcement Unit (CREU) conducted an enforcement operation in Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation on September 22, 2026, in response to a recent increase in drug overdoses within the community.

As a result of the investigation, multiple individuals were arrested and significant quantities of illicit drugs and proceeds of crime were seized.

During the investigation, police seized approximately 48 grams of methamphetamine, approximately $2,000 Canadian currency, and a digital scale believed to be associated with drug trafficking activities.

33-year-old Amber Leigh BELL, of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, was arrested and charged with:

- Possession of Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking.

- Proceeds of Crime Less Than $5,000

- Disobeying a Cour Order

MFNPS investigators also executed multiple search warrants, including a warrant at Lake Road South in Sandy Bay.  As a result of that search, 57-year-old Nancy "Sammy" BEAULIIEU was arrested and charged with:

-  3 counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Methamphetamine, Fentanyl, and Codeine, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Both accused were remanded into custody with future court dates.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional arrests and charges are anticipated as MFNPS continues its efforts to identify and disrupt those responsible for trafficking dangerous drugs within First Nation communities. Drug trafficking poses a significant threat to the safety and wellbeing of community members.
