Investigation on Illegal Sale of Cigarettes Leads to Charges

Long Plain First Nation: On March 5th, 2026, members of the Manitoba First Nations Police Crime Reduction and Enforcement Unit (CREU) with the assistance of members of the Long Plain Detachment executed a Search Warrant at a residence in the community of Long Plain First Nation for the suspected sale of tobacco.
As a result of the execution of the Search Warrant Police located over 81 cartons of cigarettes totally in an amount of 16,760 cigarettes, with an estimated street value of over $6,000.
As a result of the investigation:
A 76-year-old male of Long Plain First Nation has been charged with the following:
· Possession of Tobacco for the Purpose of Sale,
· Possession of Proceeds of Crime, and
· Possession of a Controlled Substance, namely Codeine.
He was released on an undertaking, in accordance with the Criminal Code of Canada.
