MFNPS Investigating Second Fatal ATV Collision

A 59-year-old man died as a result of an ATV single-vehicle collision in Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation this past weekend. This is the second fatality in the community involving an ATV in the span of one week.

On September 13, 2026, shortly after 1:00 a.m., the Manitoba First Nations Police Service in Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation were dispatched to the intersection of Lake Road and Dump Road after a report of an ATV in the ditch at the intersection.

Police arrived a short time later and located an unconscious man a short distance away from the vehicle. Lifesaving efforts were taken by the officers until Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived a short time later, at which point the 59-year-old man was declared deceased.

Early investigation revealed that the ATV had been travelling at a high rate of speed on Dump Road when it lost control near the intersection of Lake Road. The deceased was the sole occupant of the off-road vehicle and had been wearing safety gear, including a helmet.

It is believed that alcohol was a factor in both ATV incidents.

Police would like to remind the public to exercise caution and follow off-road vehicle laws and regulations when operating an ATV or any other off-road vehicle.
