Police Lay Weapons Charges After Traffic Stop

On March 14, 2025, Manitoba First Nations Police (MFNP) were received a call of an intoxicated male in the Otineka Mall carrying an edged weapon in Opaskwayak Cree Nation.


Police attended immediately and were advised by mall security that the male had left the building and was still armed with the weapon, Police located the male attempting to fight an unrelated female in the area. The male was given verbal command to comply with Police however he fled the area and threw the weapon into a snowbank. The male was pursued and arrested; he was not cooperative with Police.


The 38-year-old male and was charged with the following offences.


  •  Possession a weapon for a dangerous purpose x 2
  • Carrying a concealed weapon x 2
  • Resist arrest
  • Causing a disturbance


The male was held to recover from his intoxicated state and later release on an undertaking to appear in court as required by the Criminal Code of Canada.
