Police Investigate Firearm Incident

Long Plain First Nation, Manitoba

On September 3, 2025, at approximately 3:48 pm, Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) received a report alleging that two individuals shot the front window of a residence on the Long Plain First Nation with a shotgun. 

 

Officers immediately attended to the home and spoke to 2 occupants, who reported that an adult male and a youth male attended the residence, there was a short interaction with the occupants, resulting in the adult male brandishing a sawed-off shotgun and pointing it at the front door of the residence. No shots were fired, but upon leaving, the suspects smashed the front window. 

 

With the assistance of MFNPS K9, members determined that the adult male had fled to a residence on Split Rock Trail on the Long Plain First Nation. As Police attended the residence, the adult male fled out of the rear and was taken into custody. Shortly after, another male, who was not involved in the first incident also fled out of the rear and was taken into custody. This male was found to be armed with a sawed of .22 caliber rifle and had ammunition for the firearm. Police searched the residence and located a loaded sawed-off shotgun.

 

As a result of this investigation the following charges have been laid on the following males,

 

25-year-old Preston PERSWAIN has been charged with the following offences:

-         Weapons possession contrary to an order x 4

-         Fail to Comply with Release Order x 3

-         Careless Use of a Firearm

-         Pointing a Firearm x 2

-         Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

-         Unauthorizwed Possession of a Prohibited Weapon x 2

-         Possession of a Firearm Knowing Possession is Unauthorized x2

-         Possession of a Restricted Firearm with ammo without licence x 2


PERSWAIN was held in custody to appear in court at a later date.

 

 24-year-old Nathan SCOTT has been charged with the following offences:

-         Possess of Firearm with Tampered Serial Number

-         Weapons Possession Contrary to an Order x 2

-         Discharge Firearm While Being Reckless

-         Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

-         Carrying Concealed Weapon

-         Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon

-         Possession of a Firearm Knowing Possession is Unauthorized

-         Possession of a Restricted Firearm with Ammo Without Licence

 

SCOTT was held in custody to appear in court at a later date.

 

The youth male has not been located by Police.
