Police Investigation into Sexual Relationship with Child Leads to Charges

On September 18, 2024, Manitoba First Nations Police (MFNP) received a complaint regarding an adult male involved in a sexual relationship with a young female.


MFNPS Criminal Investigation Unit (CSU) investigated the allegations, it was learned that the male was 27 years old, and the victim was 14 years old, the accused started a relationship through messages with the youth, and the investigation also revealed and confirmed sexual relations occurred between the accused and victim. Police executed a search warrant on the adult male's residence where numerous electronic devices were seized. Police also executed a warrant to obtain DNA from the adult male. The accused was arrested during the execution of the warrants. The accused will not be named to protect the identity of the victim.


A 27-year-old male from Birdtail Sioux First Nation was arrested and charged with the following;



·       Sexual assault X3

·       Sexual Interference X3

·       Luring a child by telephone

·       Breach of Prohibition order X7

 

The accused was remanded into custody but has since been released by the courts on further conditions.
