Police Investigate Stabbing in Sandy Bay First Nation

On August 4, 2025, just after 7:00 pm Manitoba First Nations Police Service officers received a call that someone had been stabbed. Members responded to a residence and located a 28-year-old male suffering from stab wounds.


Officers provided first aid to the man. EMS and STARS air ambulance attended, and the male was transported to Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre. His condition has been upgraded to stable.


Through investigation it was determined that the victim and another male had been in what started as a consensual fight. It is alleged that at one point in the fight the accused male used and edged weapon and stabbed the victim multiple times.


The accused was located at the scene and taken into custody.


Gary Joseph McIvor (26) has been charged with:


- Aggravated Assault.


McIvor was held in custody to appear in Portage La Prairie court on August 5, 2025.
