Sandy Bay Death Investigation Update

A post-mortem examination has been completed regarding the tragic death of 37-year-old Amanda Nobiss. Amanda’s body was located in Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation on July 17, 2026. She had been the subject of an extensive search in the community by the Manitoba First Nations Police Service.

Amanda Nobiss had been in Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation on behalf of K9 Advocacy Manitoba the previous day. She had planned to pick up several puppies from a local resident. It is believed that Amanda came to the residence alone when the occupant was not home, and came into contact with the occupant's dogs, who were protective and aggressive.

A friend of Amanda contacted police just before 1 a.m. concerned about her whereabouts. The MFNPS conducted a ground and aerial search of the area based on the last known location from Amanda’s cell phone.

Her body was located later that morning by a community maintenance worker outside of a residence.

The results of a post-mortem examination indicated Amanda's injuries were consistent with a dog attack.

Arrangements were made with the band to destroy two male dogs. K9 Advocacy Manitoba rescued a female dog and several puppies.
