June 10, 2026

Sandy Bay First Nation

On June 3, 2026, at approximately 8:01 p.m., members of the Crime Reduction and Enforcement Unit (CREU) in Sandy Bay First Nation initiated an investigation involving two male suspects believed to be in possession of drugs and/or weapons.

Officers approached two males near a dirt bike when one individual transferred a backpack to the second male and fled the area on the bike. The second male, now in possession of the backpack, also fled on foot into the bushes.

A coordinated foot pursuit was initiated, supported by Police Service Dog (PSD ZION) and aerial drone resources. During the search, officers followed a trail of discarded items belonging to the suspect, including boots, clothing, and personal effects. Some items were intentionally concealed, indicating efforts to evade detection and conceal evidence.

Through coordinated search efforts and tracking, officers were able to narrow the suspect’s path of travel. At approximately 9:08 p.m., a backpack was located concealed in a bush within the search area. The bag matched the description of the item carried by the suspect and showed signs of recent use.

Upon examination, officers located a loaded semi-automatic .22 caliber rifle (GSG-16 style) inside the backpack. The firearm contained one round in the chamber and was accompanied by two fully loaded magazines (approximately 60 rounds). Additional items located within the bag included ammunition, a cell phone, a crack pipe, gloves, and other personal effects.

Officers took immediate steps to secure the firearm and preserve all evidence for forensic examination. The suspect’s discarded clothing was also recovered and seized as part of the investigation.

Based on the evidence obtained, the suspects are expected to face multiple charges, including possession of a firearm, possession of controlled substances, and attempting to conceal or destroy evidence.

The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to locate all individuals involved.
