Seeking Suspect After Police Vehicle Rammed

May 22, 2026

Sandy Bay First Nation, Manitoba

On May 22, 2026, shortly before 5:00 a.m. Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) members at the Sandy Bay First Nation detachment were advised by Sandy Bay First Nation Safety Officers (FNSO) that a vehicle had attempted to run them of the road. The suspect vehicle had driven directly at the FNSO vehicle, but they were able to get out of the way before being struck. The truck was later determined to be a stolen vehicle.

MFNPS members located the suspect vehicle in the community and attempted to stop it. The vehicle fled for a short distance before coming to a stop. When the police vehicle stopped behind the stolen vehicle, the driver put it in reverse and accelerated into the police vehicle at a high rate of speed. The collision rendered the police vehicle inoperable, and the suspect vehicle was able to flee the scene. The officer involved suffered injuries and was treated at the hospital.

Police continue to investigate and are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect in this incident.
